Trucking: Licenses, Insurance, Permits ...etc, trucking companies, luck jim

To whom it May concern:

My dad has been a truck driver for 8 years now. About a year ago he bought his own truck and has been working for companies since then. Most of the times the companies don't pay well or on time so we want to start our own company. I have read a great deal of the answers posted here and they have been very helpful. However, I am not clear on the things he needs to start. He has the truck and is planning on buying the trailer. What are the permits, licences and insurance necessary to start operating? If possible, can you please give me an estimate? I will really appreciate your help.

Be aware however that many customer will pay slower than the trucking companies so you will need to have enough operating capital for at least 60 days just to be safe.
