Trucking: rules, trailer gvwr, god bless israel

Question
I have a 2500 chevy an have a trailer rated at 7500lbs. If I pull some some things across state lines would I need any dot or any thing at all since the truck and trailer are rated below 10001lbs. Not a cmv then is it. Thanks

Answer
Hi Tony,

I suspect the GVWR on the 2500 Chevy is around 7000 lbs., so the truck GVWR and the trailer GVWR is going to be over 10,000 lbs. Law Enforcement can't prove it's not your equipment being hauled, so as long as you tell Law Enforcement it's your equipment you won't need anything. It's all about how you answer their questions, you always answer personal truck and personal property. If you want to be truthful about being in commerce, you'll need a DOT #, log book, medical card, & business name.

I hope this helps, any other questions let me know.
God Bless, Israel
