Trucking: Hot Shot, hot shot business, god bless israel

Question
I am currently looking into starting my own hot shot business. I know that there are a lot of things that I have to do before I can actually get started. I already have my Class A CDL so that poses no problem, the question I have is what's my next step? Do I start looking into permits now or do I get a DBA from my local courthouse? I do have a 1 ton truck and trailers all ready to go. I really hope you can help me with this. Your time is appreciated!

Thank You,
Kristi

Answer
Hi Kristi,

You can lease on with a company or operate on your own. I suggest finding a company to lease on with and let them teach you about the business. You will be able to learn customers and maybe create a good relationship with some that might keep you busy as a business owner. If you still want to be on your own, go to www.dotauthority.com and they can do everything you need to get you started. Check out Baker Transport as a possible company to lease on to. Also keep in mind, you will need a transmission in a 1 ton about every 2 years.

God Bless, Israel
