Trucking: getting started, grain farmer, retireing

Question
Hello. I am a grain farmer and am exploring the possibility of semi-retireing in the Phoenix AZ area. I would like to bring my truck with me and find work hauling dirt, sand or gravel. I would like suggestions as to how to find work and expected income from this area. I would own the truck outright. I know that high fuel prices will make turning a profit difficult. I would think that if I am not making payments on the truck or having to raise a large family, that I could keep busy and pay for my living expenses. What do you think? Thanks. Jeff.

Answer
Jeff, I don't know anything about this business or the local market in Phoenix, but you might start by asking people involved in buying and selling dirt.  Try tis site:

Check the yellow pages and just start calling and asking.  Someone will refer you to someone who can help.  Sorry it wasn't me.
