Trucking: Hot Shot Info, hot shot business, luck jim

Question
Wanting to get into the Hot Shot business and want to know about what the price per mile is going for?  Also, how do I go about getting totally legal over the road and making sure I have the right Authority, Insurance and any other things I need to be totally legal?  Does this differ from state to state?  Do I have to buy fuel permits for all states I run?  Will I have to stop at weigh stations and run a log book for this type of business? Hope this is not too many questions at once?
