Trucking: LTL loads, chevy 3500 dually, gooseneck trailer

Question
My husband and I recently purchased a 2006 Chevy 3500 Dually duramax diesal and a 32' gooseneck trailer. I have been to numerous websites and talked with DOT and still cannot get a straight answer. We are wanted to go over the road but are unsure of the actual regulations. We were told that we can register our truck to haul what we want. Is that true and how do we do that? Also, do we have to have a CDL if we stay under 26,001 LBS? We run log books and have medical cards. Our truck and trailer have a combined GVWR of 26,000 LBS. Like I said before, we cannot get straight answers and want to run legal. Any help you can give us would be very appreciated. We called Expeditors.com and they couldn't help us either. We are from Florida and Florida has done away with the class D license so we are confused.

Answer
Hi Melissa, If you stay under 26001 GCW. Gross Combined Weight, Vehicles with load, you will not need CDL. You can haul legally within Florida without Federal Authority (MC#).
If you plan to haul interstate, across state lines, you will need IRP tag for truck and Federal Authority. Visit my web site: www.longdataser.com   Good Luck  J P Long
