Trucking: Starting up a hotshot business, cutaway van, fuel mileage

Ran up on your website and found it most informative.  Know you get a thousand questions on the hotshot business and if you don't mind i'd like to make it a thousand two or three!  Wanting to run parcels locally and short distances over the road using maybe a Sprinter or a Chevy cutaway van.  What would I need to do to start up?(permits,licenses,etc.)  Which vehicle would be better suited for such an operation and should it be gas or diesel?  Any info or advice you can give would be appreciated.  Thanx!

Contact your state's Department of Transportation to get you legal.  As far as gas or diesel, you should go diesel!  Pulling weight isn't an issue for you, but you'll get better fuel mileage and that will be more money in your pocket!
