Trucking: Start Up Info, bob stephens, mc number

Question
bob, im looking into getting my own truck and trailer but i don't know what i need to be legal, what do i need to start pulling loads for getloaded.com, i hear of allot of owner operators leasing on to a company but they are locked into only pulling freight for that company and that is some thing i don't want to do. i want to find my own loads and go where i want when i want. so does having my own MC numbers mean i have my own authority and could pull load from any one? any information about starting up and being legal would be greatly appreciated. also there is a large marine terminals here in Norfolk that have a lot of intermodal work, how would i find those loads?

Thank you
Matt

Answer
Hi Matt.

Sites like www.dotauthority.com will get you legal.  You need your own DOT/MC number.  You will also need your IFTA stickers, etc.  They can help.

Finding loads out of the marine terminals can be found on sites like getloaded.com.  Then when you get to know the brokers, you can call them directly.  You'll find that 2,3 or even 10 brokers have the exact same load.  It's a matter of who fills it first.  That's why you should deal with numerous brokers so you can do find the one with the best rate and credit.

Good luck!
