Trucking: Hi! Question about car hauling, dodge dually, study loads

Question
Hi Stephen, i have some questions about car hauling.  My boyfriend wants to start his own car hauling business with a Dodge Dually and 3 car-trailer and is trying to research this job, but doesn't have enough to work with.  He still needs to buy the equipment, truck, DOT numbers, etc. so we can't view or study loads posted on Central Dispatch without these things.  We have been down and out for quite some time and he is becoming discouraged.  We don't even know if there will be enough work around our area in New York to pay off our bills and make a living.  PLease, if you could get back to me with some enlightenment, I'd really appreciate it!  Thank you!

Answer
Hi Teresa.

Look into leasing out.  If he buys the truck, find a company he can run with that will not only find loads, but cover the cost of the DOT numbers, insurance, permits, etc.  Start looking in the phone book for trucking companies, hot shot trucking, auto hauling, etc.  This will keep your start up costs low and provide a good living.  Once you saved up some money, you can get your own DOT number and run for yourself.

This is one of the big players in the trucking industry that he could lease his Dodge out to...

Good luck!
