Trucking: Car Hauling, fly by night, brokerage companies

Question
How would you approach a dealer or an auction company to get loads for a 3-4 car trailer. Also, are there any brokerage companies that will help a little guy like me? (And not lay the screws to me)
Thanks,
Jesse

Answer
Hi Jesse.

Every dealer is going to have a different person in charge.  It could be the sales manager, or someone else.  Simply ask each dealer who is in charge of shipping vehicles.  Find out who it is and make sure you get a face-to-face with them.  Drop off your business card and tell them how you want to be their shipper.  That's how most contacts are made.  Auction's will just pass out your information.  They may have a board you can put a flyer up on.  See what they can do for you.

Brokers, are necessary vultures in my book.  Find local brokers in your area and call them.  Check their references and stay away from the ones that look like a fly by night company.  The biggest part of your business, though, will come from dealers.  Take a few days and stop by as many as you can.  Don't forget to stop in at high end repair shops.  They may get cars from long distances, too.

Good luck!
