Trucking: Trucking business, trucking business, cargo liability

Question
I am new to starting a trucking company i see a friend that pulls permits quite often. is this needed everytime you have a run. I am also shopping for a insurance company that will not kill me as i am just starting any suggestions as to a good company. How does it work if i lease other owner operators to work for me will my insurance cover them or will they have to get there own.

Answer
Hi Michael.

You'll can get permits that will cover you for the year, but if you don't run certain states that often, you can buy temporary permits for that state.

For insurance look at these companies...

www.insuremyrig.com
www.truckinsure.com
www.cooperinsurance.org
www.gwccnet.com
www.sentry.com
www.progressivecommercial.com

You can work it either way.  You can pay the insurance or let them.  Usually, O/O pay their own truck insurance and you would pay the cargo/liability insurance.  Depends on who owns the trailers, too.

Good luck!
