Trucking: hot shot, hot shot business, bob stephens

I am considering starting a hot shot business here in wyoming and surrounding states. I am curious do you have to go on long hauls in order to make money doing hot shots or can you keep in somewhat in your home area and still grow your business. Also, if there is any advice you could give it would be greatly appreciated as I am brand new to this. thank you

Hi Jason.

You don't have to go on long hauls, but being in Wyoming, you'll be regional.  Meaning, surrounding states.  You need to talk to brokers in your region and see what loads are running.  They'll be able to help find loads, or put in in touch with the right person.  If all else fails, go to www.getloaded.com.

Finally, get in tough with local companies.  They may have loads that brokers never see.  Do some sales calls and you never know what business you'll get out of it!
