Trucking: Trying to get started, schneider werner, lease purchase program

Question
My name is Doug and Its been hell out there to find a job. All companies want EXPERIENCE.I graduated last Feb. and only had a couple of grabs, U.S.A Trucking wanted .22c.p.m. All truckers I've talked to said thats a waste of time. I would like to work for an owner operator or become one. Is there any thing to help me?

Answer
Hi Doug.

I made more than .22 per mile in 1991 when I got out of truck driving school!  You should be making a lot more than that.  Even with no experience (and a trucking school graduate) you should be able to get a job with every company listed on www.bubbajunk.com.  You'll have to drive with a trainer for a few weeks, but then your on your own.  Look at www.usxpress.com.  I use to drive for them years ago and not only will you get good pay and miles, but their trucks are better than the junk USA has.

Other companies like Heartland Express, JB Hunt, CR England, Schneider, Werner, etc. should grab you right up!  Get on their web sites and start making some calls, you'll get a position fast.

As far as working for an O/O, it will be tougher with no experience.  You may find a position, but really have to search in your area.  Many small fleets want one year OTR experience, due to insurance companies telling them so.  There are exceptions, but find that big company and get some experience.

Also, companies like US Xpress have a lease/purchase program, so you can become your own owner/operator.

Good luck!
