Trucking: abandon truck, dac report, water under the bridge

Question
i worked for a company. i stopped working for them suddenly and i left there truck and trler in one of their drop yards. it's secure. we dropped lded trlers there all the time. they put the truck on my dac report as abandoned. they told me it was an abandoned truck because they had to send someone to pick it up. the reason i stopped working for them was because of an emergency at home.  can i fix this or is it unfixable.

Answer
I've seen this happen before.  I'm no big fan of DAC reports.  This has happened to a number of drivers.  What you needed to do was drive the truck into the lot, go inside and get some form of supervisory personnel, and the two of you go around the truck and do a thorough post trip inspection. Then fill out the VIR forms for the vehicle, and both of you sign it. You take a copy, and they take a copy.

That's water under the bridge now, but remember that for your next position.  I would call DAC and tell them you want your side of the story on your report.  It's doubtful that the abandoned truck will be taken off, but if your going to try, get a lawyer.

With your side of the story on your report, it at least shows that you are fighting it.  Most big companies use DAC and many small ones don't.  During your next interview, tell your side of the story.  If your a good driver, you'll still get hired, but be upfront about it.

I'm sorry to hear that this has happened to you, but don't let it get you down.  Good drivers are hard to find!

Good luck!
