Trucking: Zone rates, trucking tools, straight scoop

Question
I am just starting in the buisness as a owner operator with my own authority, where can I find truckload rate calculators on the web that are free, so I can see if I am charging the correct mileage rate or to see if a broker may be trying to take advantage of me and not paying the truck what that zone is actually worth.
Please help me out on this. I've seen the site that want to charge me a monthly cost for this info but at this time I am cash strapped and would really appreciate any help I can get in this area.
Thanks
Dave

Answer
I don't know of anything like what yoiu are looking for.
The market determines the rate and as you have discovered there are a few subscription based sites that that compile information for brokers.  Best bet is find a broker you can trust to give you the straight scoop.  In the long run the only way to price your service is to know your costs.  I assume you have checked out OOIDA, http://www.ooida.com/
They have tools that can help like the cost per mile worksheet, http://www.ooida.com/trucking_tools/CPM/Cost_Per_Mile_Worksheet.xls
Good luck with your new business.
