Answer
Hi Janne,
The programming of the door locking system is centralized in the body control module. That unit is under the dash to the left of the steering column, mated-together with the fuse block. To get to it you remove the under steering-column cover (remove screws holding parking brake release handle, then remove the screws holding the cover) and then the knee blocker panel (remove screws). That gives you good access to the fuse block/body control unit. You remove the bolts that hold the unit to the dash, then notice there are screws that hold the bcm to the fuse block and when you remove those the bcm slides downward and separates from the block (the two are connected electrically at their interface). The bcm has two plugs, the fuse block (also called the 'junction block') has 4 plugs.
I am not certain what you mean by a 'remote control locking unit': do you mean an electronic key fob that will allow you to open the doors at a distance? If so, is it possible that the van already has this capability but the key fobs were lost? If it has such a capability already it would have a small remote keyless entry unit mounted under the pad that runs across the top of the dash. It would require that you go to a Chrysler dealer to have a new key fob programmed to mate with the bcm. That underpad unit has 4 wires (a ground, and two wires that connect to pin 1 light green/red and 37 gray/black of the BCM plug that carries pins 1-40, and a 12V pink supply wire that is powered all the time). Let me know what else you need to know.
One question is to be sure the vehicle is a '96, because I notice that sometime foreign-sold units are actually a model year earlier, e.g. that your van is actually a '95, which is entirely different from the '96 which I have been describing. The 10th digit of the vehicle ID number is a T for '96 and a S for '95.
