Trucking: Owner operator just starting, truck owner operator, private carriers

Question
Hi Jim,My boyfriend just purchased a truck[owner operator] Down the road we would like to look into government driving jobs,we live in Ohio. Can you tell me how to go about this? Also what do you suggest is the best driving jobs? Also we would like to get our own authority and become a broker. How do we do all this? How are the broker classes offered on the internet?Do you know of a good class or school where I could learn how to do this?We need some advice from an expert.Thank you,Kim

Answer
Kim, I don't know of any government driving jobs outside of the military.  The government usually contracts with private carriers for their transportation needs.
I don'yt have any experience or knowledge about the broker schools but brokering is basicly a sales job.  You have to find the loads and the trucks to match to the loads.  It takes a lot of time and effort to build a book of business, not a get rich quick as some might lead you to believe.
