Trucking: CDL Manual, motor vehicle dept, tripples

Question
Hi John,

I just want to be sure about the procedure for getting a commercial driver's license.

You study the manual and take the written test at the motor vehicle dept in your state?

If you pass the written part what does that get you?

Then, if you pass the written test, you then take the skills part of the test with a truck?

Thanks,

Philip Zorian

Answer
Hi Philip,  The procedure :  1. Study manual for parts you will need to take the seperate tests: "General Knowledge, Air Brakes,Doubles and Tripples, and Hazmat.
2. Take the tests,  3.  Schedule for Pre-trip inspection and road test and skill tests.  When you pass all , then you get the c d l license with the endorsements for the test that you passed.  Hope this clears it up for you.
