Trucking: Flatbed Shipping Fees, lovell maine, barn lumber

Question
Tony:
How much do you think I should expect to pay to ship a 9-ton load of used barn lumber from Three-Oaks Michigan to Lovell Maine?  Longest beam is 36 feet.  Shipment can be viewed at:   <http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&category=29505&item=3181194979&sspagename=STRK%3AMEBWA%3AIT>
And, if I hire a truck, can I expect them to provide a crew to load it at the pickup oint, and unload it at the drop-off point?
Many Thanks!

Answer
Paul,
Flats bed hauls normally charge by the mile. There is 1125 mile from Three Oaks,MI to Lovell,ME. Flat bed per mile rates could run between $1.10 to $1.25 per mile. There is a possibility that you could co-load or get a partial rate since you really are not taking up the entire flat bed but the carrier or broker would have to work the two load together. Now on the loading and unloading assistance charge would run between $125.00 to $175.00 at each end in addition to the per mile cost.

When you are ready to ship, shoot me an email and I'll be glad to run this through ou system and see what kinda rates we can get. If the timing is right and we find a truck empty in your neck of the woods that needs to get back-haul to Maine we might be able to get you a very good rate.
