Trucking: hours truckers can work, federal gov, driving time

Question
Are there any state (in this case Florida) or federal laws regarding how many hours a truck driver may be on the road per day?  Could you point me to any regulations regarding this matter?  Thank you.

Answer
Yes, Meghan, truck drivers are regulated by the Federal Gov. as to the time they can spend driving and working.
The "Hours of Service Regulations" limits the driving time to 10 hours after 8 or more hours off duty. Also, the driver can not work after being on duty 15 hours (including the driving time). Also then, there is a 70 hour rule:
Drivers can not work more than 70 hours in a period of 8 days if the company works every day of the week or 60 hours in a period of 7 days if company does not work but 6 days a week.  for more info you are welcome to E-mail me at
