Trucking: Dispatcher, experance, trucking industry

I hope you can field a couple of questions about dispatching in the trucking industry for me.  I`ve been in the marine industry for 25 years.  dispatcher,  operations manager,  and marine consultant.  In the last couple of years I have sent my resume to some companies that ran adds in the classifieds.  I have never had a response,  I also understand that that is not uncommon.  With your experience in the industry I hope you could shed some light on this career for me.  any information you could expand upon I would appreicate.

Dispatching normaly requries a knowledge of the area or region and cities that a carrier would operate in. Companys also would be looking for someone with a following ie.shippers,drivers also a lot of positions are filled with people that have driven a truck and have road experance as well as people skills to assist drivers with problems that occur on the road. Practical experance and a knowledge of the trucking indrustry would be helpfull if not a requirement. Good luck
