Truck Repair: N14 Cummins skipping, n14 cummins, hot ones

Question
I have a 2000 Freightliner. It just recently developed a miss. 3 cylinders 4,5 and 6 went out at same time. they are colder than the front 3 cylinders. Which is bad the cold ones or the hot ones?

Answer
hi stanley,
the cold cylinders are the ones that are not firing...it seems weired that 3 cylinders would go out at once like that....it sounds like a wiring issue...is the check engine light on? if you have software for this engine perform a cylinder cut out test and verify exactly which ones are out. inspect all your wiring under the valve covers and back to the ecm and make sure that all the harnesses are plugged in correctly and there is no damage to the wires, also have a look at where they plug into the injectors and make sure all is secure. if nothing is obvious you will need to get a manual and follow their troubleshooting guides as there are specific procedures for troubleshooting these components.

good luck,

matt
