Truck Repair: n14 cummins, n14 cummins, resistance ohms

Question
I start my motor,it starts and runs for about8 seconds then it studders, but picks back up.This week it starts studders and stops running.I crank it over it wont start unless I shoot it with either.I thank this why it starts,I don't know. What is causing this.I think sucking air ????

Answer
hi david,
yeah it sounds like a fuel issue for sure, check all your fuel lines for chaffing and damage, change your fuel filters unless they have been done recently. check the fuel shut off solenoid on the fuel pump by removing the power wire, check resistance (ohms) between the positive post and the body of the solenoid...can't remember for sure what the specs are but should be around 10 ohms...if it is way higher or way lower then replace it. other than that you will need to find a manual and work from that. sorry i couldn't be more help
