Truck Repair: 1991 Chevy Silverado 4x4 [gauge cluster], chevy lovers, chevy trucks

The cluster I'm changing has 247000 miles showing.Changing because of defective fuel gauge. The one I'm installing has 51000 showing truck won't start with this one.Does run with old one or none at all.Any suggestions.

Hi Mack,
That's a new one on me.

Did you disconnect the battery?

I guess it's possible the ECM has something built into it to prevent odometer changing, but I haven't heard of it.

Could you swap fuel guages?

Do you have access to the ECM from the cluster doner truck? Might temporarily swap them just to see.

Another thing I would suggest is go to a Chevy lovers forum I belong to, and ask the question there. I am Fixitfox33 on that site, and here is a link that will walk you through signing in.

Chevytech would be a good person to answer that. He is a service manager at some dealership, and very knowledgeable.
