Truck Repair: 1994 S-10 blazer engine starting problem, diesel mechanic, coil wire

I have a 1994 S-10 blazer with the vortec v-6/4.3ltr engine.I cant get it to start.It has a very heavy gas smell when you turn it over to try & start it but all it does is spin over.I did get the old lady to try & start it while i pulled the coil wire off at the coil itself & its firing like a firecracker.I know you said you were a diesel mechanic but maybe you can give me some insight to something simple to start with.I have children & anything i can do myself is cheaper on me...plz help if you can & will.thank you so much....Bart & family

Make sure it is firng at the plugs by taking one off,getting a screwdriver and putting it in the boot.Get someone to turn it over to make sure.If not then the rotor button is bad.Change rotor & cap at the same time & maybe a tune up with the rotor,cap,plugs & wires.
