Truck Repair: 1997 5.9L (Dodge), injector pump, fuel pump

Question
Hi, My dad has recently purchased a 1997 Dodge w/ a5.9L Cummins. The fuel is
adjusted up (I guess to up th HP?) and he would like to adjust it back to normal.
He would also like to time the injector pump. Can you help? I found a good
instruction for an earlier model a while back, but I guess they changed the
pumps starting in 1997?

Answer
The 12V engines are not real hard to time but time consuming & makes a mess. There is a plastic timing pin(just like the older ones)under pump to lock engine on TDC.If you really want to do it just take the oil fill off & loosen fuel pump nut.Turn engine over untill the timing pin goes into the camgear.Remove the fuel pump timing pin cover &(the pin is in the cover backwards so flip it so the split is level) try to install the pin in the fuel pump. There is a mark on the pin to help you keep it horizontal while installing it.If it goes in then it is in time.
