Truck Repair: 1964 chevy C-10, oil pressure switch, smallblock 350
QuestionHi van, I have a 64' C-10. I replaced the 283 with a 80's smallblock 350. The motor has a HEI dis. Headers, a pretty good custom exhaust, edelbrock manifold, a mild RV cam and a piece of junk Roch 4G carb. My question is, I need to replace the carb but I'm unsure of what type. Do I need electronic choke & if so what does the electronic part hook up to?(theres not much left in the way of electronics!!!)or do I need a manual choke? Is there such a thing as automatic (neither electric or manual) (thermocouple maybe?) Also i've been told that shes quite overcarbed. My goal is a little performance but reliability. Thanks for any help you could give me
AnswerThe electronic part of the choke connects through an oil pressure switch to battery voltage.
it is only a heater element inside the choke spring housing, and is for the purpose of heating the choke spring so it will open.
That carb may or may not have a tube drawing heated air from port in the intake crossover, and may take forever to open without the electric heater.
