Truck Repair: Cummins L-10 white smoke., federal mogul, cam timing

Question
I too have an L-10 that emits a tremendous amount of white smoke upon starting or when the engine is cold. I changed the camshaft because it broke when the bearings wore out. I put in the same key but used a Federal-Mogul cam. I think I need to go through the cam timing procedure but how do I find the right key not knowing which key I am starting with?

Answer
There are no certain keys to start with.We had a camgear machined for a "slip fit" so we would not have to keep pressing gear off & heating it up to put on.They do tell you in the CPL book which one is "suppose" to be the correct one but usually are not.
