my truck is showing 2 codes p0216, and p1689  i have replaced the lift pump and my problems are that when i accelerate i have a lagging or surging and i also cant passa anything the fastest it gets up to 65 and than hiccups every several seconds  this experience is horrible till the truck heats up my max speed is about 20.  the truck throttles up to 3000 rpms without hesitation in park or nuetral. under load  i have all the hesitation problems.  sometimes the truck works fine maybe once a month under weird circumstances.  i really dont wanna buy a new vp44 so any help would be greatly appreciated.  the temp sensor only gets up to 180  and my oil pressure never gets to more than 50 ,40 psi when warm i am trying to find a correlation between these but cant quite pin anything yet.  THANKS FOR ANYTHING YOU CAN GIVE ME, Bryan

Fault code P0216 is fault 368 & fault P1689 is fault 364.Fault 364 is causing your problem.It says its a communication error between VP44 & the ECM.Normally an eng wiring harness problem between wires 13 & 23 of ECM plug & pins 1 & 2 of the VP44.

okay where exactly is the ecm and how do i find wires 13 and 23

The ECM is bolted to the block behind fuel injection pump. The pins are 1-50 from left to right in rows of 10.Of course when you flip the harness over they will be backwards.They are divided in half so 1-5.11-15,21-25,31-35,41-45 will be in the right block(looking at the ECM side of the plug)then 6-10,16-20,26-30,36-40, & 46-50 will be on the left side.put a paper clip in the wire terminal hole so not to spread out the connector & as close to 0 ohmns from pin 13-2 & 23-1(pin 1 & 2 are on the VP44 plug at the injection pump.Just pull the catch on the outside of the connector & it will move the connector off the pump.Pins 1&2 are on the  top(Look like the eyes in the smily face).
