Truck Repair: White smoke cummins, cam follower, cam followers

Question

-------------------------------------------
So afc control out of adjustment and 20lbs extra fuel pressure would that do in the follower? just trying to figure out why the failure
-----Question-----
Okay so the stc control valve not fuctioning ,would that cause the injection pressures to go up and do cam follower damage?
-----Answer-----
The STC valve is just an oil supply/divertor for the injectors. The oil fills the tappet causing the injector  timing to change, when fuel pressure reaches the set point the valve will shift dumping oil back to the pan. Will not damage camfollower, just smoke reallybad. You can rebuild the valve with a $40 kit of o rings.

Answer
There probably a technical answer you dont want to hear that caused the problem but in short the STC engines put more soot in the oil than other engines. If the cam followers are original & the old 855 type then they might not have the new rollers on them.Yes more fuel pressure does create more load on the injector lobe but 20 PSI is probably still in specs.
