Truck Repair: stuck drum on 96 C1500, spring retainers, drift pin

Question
Have ground backs off nail-like spring retainers and pushed them thru. Have
removed rubber plugs on backing plate and hammered the heck out of the edge
of the drum with a 3-pound sledge and a drift pin while rotating hub. Tried
hammering around circumference of hub with pin. Nada. Ready to buy a cutoff
wheel and some discs... Enny ideas?  Thanks!

Answer
See if the center is flexing while you pry. it may not be the shoes holding it on. It could be the center hole in the drum wedging on the axle shaft.
Apply some pry pressure between the drum and the backing plate, and then tap on the center of the axle.

Try some penetrating fluid there first.
