Truck Repair: cummins 8.3 valve adjustment, hp cummins, tdc mark

Question
I have a motor home, 1994 8.3 liter, 250 hp, cummins.  The
booklet I have (operation & maintenance manual c series engines)
shows a barring gear and engine timing pin, I can not locate either.
Is there another way to find TDC and adjust the valves?

Answer
I never use the timing pin mainly becaue its hard to get back out if an air comp is on it.Turn engine until the #6 exhaust almost closes & the intake valve starts to open. This is called valve overlap. This will be TDC #1.Do the same for #1.It really doesnt matter which one you do first. When you get to a TDC mark the dampner somewhere you can see it and just turn engine 360 degress(after you adjust 1/2 the valves)and ajust the remaining valves.
