Truck Repair: Chevy 350 Stalling, class c motorhome, pint jar

Question
Hi Van!
Here is my dilemma.  This past weekend we  bought a 1993 Damon Hornet Class C Motorhome with 37,000 miles.  It is built on the Chevy 350 Chassis.  We took the RV for a test drive and everything was fine - good actually.  After signing on the dotted line, we stopped on the way home to fill the tank (only had a 1/4 tank) and the engine immediately started sputtering and idleing rough.  This was less than a mile later.  Now, we can't put it in drive without it stalling.  We live in Arizona and the RV wasn't driven much recently.  I'm thinking we stirred something up with the gas.  Any thoughts?

Answer
Hello Amy,
You may have stirred up some crud inside the tank, or you could have added it at the gas station. Was it a high volume station, or a small country station.
At any rate, a filter change would be the first step. While it is out of the system, take a CLEAN pint jar, and while holding it where it will catch fuel from the supply line to the filter, have someone turn the key to run. The pump should run for a few seconds. Catch the gas in the jar, and let it sit for a few minutes. If there is water in the gas, it will form in the bottom of the jar in just a very short time....a minute or so.
You may also see a bunch of mud and trash.
If you do, I wouldn't even waste a new filter. Drop the tank, and get it cleaned.
