Truck Repair: Gas tank change, gmc sierra, gas tank

Good evening. I have a 1991 GMC Sierra pickup extended cab. The gas tank is leaking fuel tremendously and I would like to replace it. Do I need to take the bed off to remove the tank or can I do everything from underneath? Thank you.

Hello Ken,
You have probably heard someone say it is easier to replace the fuel pump by removing the bed, which is true if the bolts are not rusty, but to remove the tank, it will need to be done from below.
The bed will not need to be removed, or even loosened.
