Truck Repair: ford powerstroke, powerstroke diesel engine, ford powerstroke

Question
I have a 2000 f250 w/ powerstroke diesel engine.
Started right up on sunday morn. and went 1 mile and died. Did not sputter or cough, just died like you shut off the key. Engine would turn over but wouldn't start. Took it to mechanic and he checked for codes, none came up.
He jump started it and it ran but was 3 quarts low on engine oil. I put oil in it started it and drove approx. 1 mile and it died again. Has about 170,000 mi on engine. any ideas? thanks

Answer
well we need to see if we can find out where this oil is going.. I take it you check your oil often dont take that the wrong way, there are alot of people that dont.if you havent done so yet check the coolant for oil in it,milky oil on top of coolant.Excesive oil in tail pipe, lot of smoke? leaks on engine ?also check the turbo there is a oil line going to it from the engine to lube it and sometimes the seal in the turbo leaks into the exhaust pipe but there would be alot of smoke. now its time for my question. why did the mech have to jump the truck was the battery dead from tring to start it or was it dead when the truck died? this might help find the problem. thanks and hope to hear from you soon on the battery issue.
