i would like to know how to replace, the steering gear box in my 1992 4.9 ltr. engine ford f-150 rwd, pick up truck...do have any instructional diagrams that ,i can down load or print to complete this task..and also the do's and dont's when tackling this project..i look forward to educated solutions and experience...................THX EMERALD

Answer
well with this truck it should be pretty easy..first remove lines then remove drag link from pitman arm , unbolt box from frame .after the box is off lay unit on floor and turn input shaft all the way to the left "counter clockwise" and remove the pitman arm .you might want to loose nut befor turning input shaft make a note of where the pitman arm is in its swing . take the new unit and turn the input shaft all the way counter clockwise and transfer the pitman arm, keeping its same position in relation to old box. reinstall new box. i would keep the tires on the floor and in the same position for the whole job to keep steering the same from old to new. after new box is in, bolt the steering shaft from the steering wheel up last. if you never turned the wheels that are on the floor you need to make them as straight as poss.then line the wheel up as if you where driving straight then bolt up shaft. the hyd.lines should self bleed back at the pump.let me know if there is anything else i can help you with and thanks for the ?
