Truck Repair: 1983 transmission swap, ford f100, romper stomper

Question
I have a 1983 Ford F100 that originally had a 302 that went bad.  This Ford truck came equipped with the three speed tranny with accompanying column shifter.  I replaced that engine with a 1982 Mustang
GT HO motor (firing order 13726548) that I rebuilt.  This GT car had a 4-speed manual transmission.  The '82 motor went right in place of the '83 and all is well.  I would now like to replace that three speed transmission with a good automatic version.  My question is this.  I have a 1983 Mustang with a 3.8 V6 with an automatic transmission.  Would this 3.8 automatic tranny be a direct boltup (bolt pattern, linkage), or would I need a 302 bell housing, and even if it did, do you think it would be tough enough to handle the power of the HO?  I am not a romper/stomper, but I would like to maybe tow a boat or trailer with this truck.  I had thought about replacing the three speed with the original four speed unit that goes with the HO, but the wife would rather have an automatic since manual isn't her thing, and I don't want to butcher the floorboard.  I already have the automatic column.  Any help is appreciated.  Thanks, Jim

Answer
jim the trans you have would need a 302 bell housing "if" it were a c4 and the housing would come off,now if you were to go that far you could have some shift timing issues since the converter is set up for a v6 rpm .If I was to make this swap I would invest in a c6 trans this trans is a perfect fit for a truck and should have plenty of towing power ...should be able to pick this up at a salvage yard for around 150.00 to 250.00 thanks.. make sure you tell them c6 for a small block
