Hello
thank you for answering my question.  i have been banging my head trying to figure this out.   i have a 1997 dodge 2500 5.9 i think it"s a 12 valve trying to figure that out to. problem is that when i jump in the morning and fire it up and go i must warm the engine up for 4 mins or when i drop in in reverse and back out when i let off the accelerator the motor will stumble and die. but if i warm her up for 4 mins she runs fine. this is a rebuilt motor but the truck has 362,000 miles and there are no computer codes been thrown out. i'm leaning towards the fuel heater or the prefilter on the fuel heater. i don't know if i'm going in the right direction or chasing my tail. the dodge dealership didn't have a clue or could even find me a fuel heater for my truck. thanks so much i want to fix my truck.

12 valve engines have single rocker covers. An ISB has one long rocker cover. The idle speed is on the data tag.The 12V has an inline long fuel pump.On those they idle stop screw gets worn and it idles too low.Should be around 750 RPMs.just get a 10MM wrench & lossen lock nut on the bottom, turn screw counterclockwise until desired idle speed is reached & tighten jam nut.

the long fuel pump you speak of is where i've looked throught my manuel and don't see any thing talking about it.as you speak it does idle at 500 rpms. any help would be great. this motor is a 12 v right? mfr date is 8-96. i'm leaving on vacation for the next two weeks and won't be back until the 24th.

Long pump(Bosch inline) is a 12V eng.Idling it up will help alot. The idle screw is underneath the throttle arm.The arm rests on it when idling. It should be,according to the data tag, at 740 RPMs.Just get a 10mm wrench & loosen lock nut on the bottom of pump, turn screw out a little at a time until you get desired idle then lock the jam nut.If you move the throttle linkage you will see the top of the screw. It has a cone shape to it & they wear making it idle lower.
