Truck Repair: N14 cutting out, or hickups?, hick ups, test ecm

Question
It's a 1997 Peterbuilt conv. (vin # 1XP5D68X4VN432176) with an 435 / N14 select that has been turned up to 525 at Cummins (with 1850 lbs of torque).   We have already had it to  a Peterbuilt shop in Pasco WA and Cummins NW in Pendleton OR.   WE live in Hermiston OR.

Any input you might be able to give would be appreciated.  Its been in the shop 15 or more times with several diff mechanics and no one has solved the problem yet!!

Since we asked the first ? we have had it in the shop two more times.  We took int to a cummins repair requesting that the wires be changed from the firewall to the ECM.  They were to call us when it was done.  OOPs no call and they did not do the asked work.  They charged us 250 in labor, 7 in parts and 7 misc, to replace a bad nut and to rewire the order of the batteries.

Help!!! this has been going on since Oct 2005 when we bought the used semi.  They always seem to have an as is clause.  We feel like we have a lemon and would never buy another Cummins.

Below is the ?  we asked before with list of things already done.  But we still do not have an answer or something we can tell other mechanics that it might be. We got a reply just no answer to a cause.

"What is causing our Enging cut out?
We call it cutting out but the mechanic said it was the hick-ups.  The
engine shuts off and comes back on.  The only code that was coming up
was TPS and it had already been changed twice.  The speed sensor has
been changed.  EPS was changed.  We have put a test ECM in also. It has
been in six shops and been on computer in 5 of those shops."

and was asked on 07/05/2006

Cummins Dealer or Distributor?Give me your city & state & I will give you phone#s to a Cummins Distibutor nearest you.Distibutors are partially owned by the engine company & have more resources than dealers. What kind of truck is it?What year model?

Answer
I would check unswitched battery wiring to ECM & fuel pump solenoid wire for problems.I have seen a Freightliner do that & it was because some battery wires to the truck cab were rubbing together shorting out.I would also let the truck idle & the wiggle wiring to see if it stumbles.
