Truck Repair: 87 Nissan Truck Battery Alternator, nissan truck, aftermarket stereo

Question
Hi
We have been having problems w/our truck the battery keeps going dead we have replaced the battery which was only 1yr old then we had it tested because it continues to go dead, when it was tested they said the alternator was bad so Advanced Auto gave us another one,  the same problem happened again about 1 week later same problem so they gave us another alternator, the original was bought in Feb of last year.  Now its happening again we are at our wits end as to the problem.  We are thinking of taking it to a electrical auto place.  The truck is our sons we bought it new in 1987. We had the engine rebuilt and the transmission rebuilt 3 years ago.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks

Answer
Hi Dee,
Walk out to your truck at night, or get it in the dark, and see if there is a light on that you are not seeing. Like under the hood, or in the glove compartment.

Then it might be time to start removing fuses.
The way to do it is remove one of the battery connections, and connect a test light between the cable and the battery post. if it lights up and stays lit, something is drawing power. remove fuses till the light goes out, and your drain is in that circuit.
Gotta have the door closed to do that so the dome light is off.

Is there an aftermarket stereo or alarm system in the truck?
