Truck Repair: 1998 DODGE RAM 4X4 TURN SIGNALS, turn signal flasher, dodge ram 4x4

Question
MY TURN SIGNALS WORK AFTER THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN RUNNING AWHILE.  IF ITS COLD OR DAMP OUT THEY WILL NOT WORK UNTIL I HAVE DRIVEN QUITE A WAY (20 MILES OR SO).  ON WARM DAYS I OCCASIONALLY HAVE THIS PROBLEM TOO.   MY EMERGENGY FLASHERS WORK AND BULBS ARE ALL GOOD. I HAVE REPLACED FUSE FOR TURN SIGNALS AND STILL HAVE PROBLEM.  I HAVE HEARD SOUNDS COMING FROM MY LIGHTS SWITCH AREA AT TIMES WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO TURN THE SIGNAL ON FOR A COUPLE OF SECONDS.  AM I ELECTRICALLY TIED INTO THAT SWITCH AS WELL?

Answer
Hi Wayne,
That sound may be the turn signal flasher, which should be a different flasher than the emergency flashers flasher.
The turn signals shouldn't be associated with the headlight switch at all.

The running awhile thing might be that the alternator is charging the battery all the way up, and the flasher, if worn out, may be needing the higher voltage to operate. I would replace that flasher, and see what happens.
