Truck Repair: 1995 dodge cummings..(5.9)..., dodge cummings, piston type

Question
1995 dodge cummings..(5.9) no fuel flow.. replaced filter/ pump on block and checked to make sure rod was going up and down(confirmed this with swishing sound while turning over) Has lever on the side of the pump for? anyway looked for prepump thinking mybe this block pump wasnt ment to draw fuel.. looked on frame rail nothing( thinking it might be in the tank.. yes tank has fuel.. even tried a 5 gallon separate fuel can with small electric pump to feed the block pump nothing.. Spray fuel in the throat runs as long as you had feed it.. ANY help would be appreciated( i live 95 miles from the closest shop) and the darn thing is to heavy to push that far!!Many thanks in advance  Dan

Answer
A 1995 model should have an inline injection pump & piston type transfer pump.It also has a spacer which Dodge has a pre-filter screen made to it.It takes a 17mm socket to take it loose.I would take it off & check it for being stopped up.Then prime the system up by pushing in on the black rubber cover on the transfer pump until it gets hard & you hear a "noise" from the return check valve on the frt inside on the injection pump.It needs around 20 psi for it to run.The "lever" type pump is used on the rotory type pumps, looks kind of like a mechanical Chevy fuel pump.
