Truck Repair: uneven tire wear, ford econoline e 250, ford econoline

Question
I have a 98 Ford Econoline E-250 cargo van.
My front tires whip out in ridges across the
tread, with all weather tires, the edges of the
lugs become uneven. It is the same all across the width of the tread. Let me illustrate: Imagine the side view of each lug as a square building
with a flat roof that soon becomes a slanted roof. After 2-3 thousand miles these tires are showing significant wear. The wear is the same
across the width of the tires AND around the
tire. Through 3 sets of tires, I have eliminated
alighnment, shocks, or wheel balance problems.
My front end expert says it's the way I load it.
My heaviest loads are for short distances, and I
load this van just as I have every Ford,Chev, or GMC I've had. My only guesses left are to try
regular street tires(at the expense of winter traction), or replace sway arm bushings(I think they are called) , They look worn, although my mechanic never mentioned them(I find him to be thourough)My 92 GMC has the same wear on those bushings but never has that problem(street tires) Any Ideas?

Answer
Hi Marvin,
I have a 98 F150...does the same thing.
I also have several F150's at work, both two and four wheel drives. They get to making what sounds like bearing noise, and rotating the tires is what corrects it.
I too have had alignments, to no avail.
I wonder if the specs are wrong.

Those arms you are talking about are radius arms.
