Truck Repair: Differential on 93 GMC Sierra, gmc sierra, pinion shaft

Question
Trying to remove the Diff on a 93 GMC Sierra, I have the C locks out and the axles pulled, the berring caps are off but the diff wont pull back.  Any Ideas?  I can't see needing to pull the pinion shaft to get the diff out, I suspect the cups on the berrings are the problem but wanted some expert advice, thanks in advance.

Answer
Hi Curtis,
The bearings and cups are just a close fit. There is actually a spreader that the book says you need, that goes into those large holes on each side of the diff case, and spreads it just a thousandth of an inch or so.
But usually a little prying will get it out.
The pinion does NOT have to come out.
It needs to be pulled as straight as possible, so the bearings will slide, and not bind.
Leaving the caps in place, but backed off while prying will keep it from just dropping out before you are ready.

Be careful taking that out, cause it is kinda heavy, and sharp edges.
