Truck Repair: 1975 ford ln600, general info on 330ci v8, oil bath air, long stroke

Question
   This concerns a 75 Ln600 straight truck with a clark 5 speed tranny, 6.80 rear end with 20" wheels, 330ci V8 with two barrel carb and 20,000lb load rating.  Specifically can you tell me engine specs; horsepower, torque, bore and stroke (I dont't need exact numbers but for example does it have a long stroke compared to bore ... is it a good torque engine). And generally, the reputation of this engine and approximate mpg and rpm (I'm guessing 2700 - 3000rpm)at highway speed @ 60mph and 26000lb gross load.  Where might I find a workshop manual for engine and truck.

Also, this engine is fitted with an oil bath airfilter.  Any comments concerning this as compared to paper and if oil bath airfilter would be a good idea on a diesel.

Answer
Hi Jim,
Bore = 3.87
Stroke=3.50
Comp. Ratio=7.4
HP=137 at 3200 RPM for engine code "C",
or 137 at 3600 RPM for engine code "D" (Heavy Duty).

Torque Lbs.Ft. = 272 at 1800 RPM for code "C", or
250 at 2400 RPM for code "D".

Just a guess...I think it will get between 4 and 7 MPG.
I have driven trucks with that engine, a car even, and they ran just fine.

Oil bath air cleaner works well...just messy to change. Diesels used to use them, but it is just so easy to stick a new paper replacement filter in when needed, and the companies love to sell them at 40 to 60 bucks each.

The public library, refference section should have manuals you can read.

To own one, search Ebay. I have gotten good shop manuals forr $4.00.

Google search for manuals might find something also.

Good luck,
Van
