Truck Repair: sonoma fuel pump, fuel pump, rivets

98 sonoma 2.2  fuel pump stops,have power to it,removed it and test with jumper,runs fine on bench,reinstall,truck will run for a while the sputter and stop,ck pump,not running,wait about 5 min.turn key pump will run,does this in tank pump have a overload built into it,or what do you think could be trouble  p/s ck all wires and relay,also have power at pump plug,and ck all wire to pump motor,all fine...tks bill

The ground wire back there by the tank needs to be clean and tight.
No overload cutoff. There is a fuse, and a fuse link, but they don't reset.
I have seen the wires INSIDE the tank, from the connector to the pump, loose. There are rivets through the plastic housing that carry voltage and ground. I have had problems with them.
Also, it is hard to check for voltage when the connector is connected, but it could be there.
