Truck Repair: 1500 Chevy Truck 4X4 ball joint replacement, chilton manuals, chain bookstore

Question
Van,  thanks for taking the time to see if you can help us.  My son has a 1994 1500 Chevy pick up 4X4, and the ball joints need replacing.  Any suggestions of repair manuals we should get...I did some ball joints many years ago on a mustang, but does the 4X4 add alot more problems to doing the job?  Any suggestions of how we can do this over the weekend would be helpful and appreciated.  I am going to the chain bookstore and see what repair manual they might have to give us some help too.

Thank you in advance for any help you can offer,

David Willey

Answer
Hi David,
The 4X4 adds a considerable amount of extra work.
The hubc, rotor, spindle, and axle shaft needs to be removed to allow room for the lower ball joint to come out.

Mitchell or Chilton manuals are good, as well as Motors.
The public library, refference section, will have all of them, as well as the GM shop manual for that truck.
