Truck Repair: fan removal, flat screwdriver, spanner wrench

Question
I have a 92 dodge pick-up 1/2 ton, 5.2L, 8 cyl.  My 92 truck has an 93 engine, I am having a problem on removing my fan.  I want to replace my water pump and the fan is in front of the water pump.

Please help?

Answer
Hi Saint,
The fan screws off the pump shaft. Takes a pretty good sized wrench, and you need to smack it with something to jar it loose.
Get the replacement water pump and look at it to make sure you are trying to turn it the right direction.
I believe it is normal direction, but it may be left hand threads.
The manual, I believe, says to use a spanner wrench with pins that go into holes in the fan belt hub, at least on the Dakota, but I have used a long flat screwdriver wedged against one of the fan belt hub bolts to keep it from turning, and smacked the big wrench with a pipe.
They don't intend for the driveway mechanic to replace it, I guess.
