Yes.

It all depends, will you have the car loaded with people?  Are you towing for long distances?  Are you towing in the city?  Are you towing in hilly terrain?  Do you have a transmission cooler?  Do you have a lead foot?  

Heat kills transmissions.  This doesn't mean it will last forever if you put on a transmission cooler.  It won't be AS hard on it with a cooler.  It will still wear it out faster than if you didn't tow.  Weight=Load=Wear.  Whether you have 1,000lbs of people and gear in the car or a 1,000 lb boat and no people or gear, the transmission will receive the same load and abuse.
