Truck Repair: chime noise, ford f 250, ford diesel

Question
I have a 1999 Ford F-250 heavy duty diesel, had it since brand new and its my fourth Ford diesel since 1989. There is a chime that goes off on a regular basis that sounds like the door ajar chime but it is in incriments of 5 and repeats for 5 times per session.
I took it my my local Ford dealer and they told me it was due to the extra wiring I have connected to the fuse box and charged me $100.
Now, like I said earlier this is my fourth truck and have had extra lights and radios in all of them before without this.
A month ago my transmission blew and I had it replaced by a transmission shop but the chimes are still there, several other diesel owners around here are experiencing the same problem as I am and have also had transmission troubles.
Can the chimes be a part of the transmission problem or something else completly as Ford will not look past the wiring.
Thank you,
John

Answer
Hi John,
I have several 250's, but haven't had the chime problem, nor the transmission problem, so I am not able to come up with an instant fix.
But by 99, the transmissions have a module, which should store fault codes, so I believe the chime could surely be possibly associated with the transmission.
I can't immagine they didn't have their tech look for transmission codes.
